The Perfect Getaway?

We as human beings are always looking for that one perfect place where we can get away and enjoy a week or two with just peace and quiet, away from our hectic everyday life. The other day I came up on a website that showed a variety of vacation spots and Kefalonia was one of them. Kefalonia is an island situated in Greece, it has some of the most beautiful landscapes, with it's majestic mountains, vegetation and long sandy beaches which to me seems like the perfect get away. If you're like me who loves to learn about different cultures and explore different places, you will definity love Kefalonia.

Argostoli is one of the largest villages in Kefalonia and it is also the capital of Kefalonia. Argostoli has some of the best hotels, shops, restaurants, bars and clubs in Kefalonia. The hotels are mostly in Greek style and they have great accessibility to many of facilities that are provided. The downside to Argostoli is that it is a busy village. The building are rather new and not very inspiring since the earthquake in 1953. One of the main attraction in Argostoli is the Drapano Bridge which is 650 meters long and it stands at the entrance to the capital city.

It is said that a trip to Greece is not yet complete without seeing the Cave of Melissani. People are awed by the beauty and the structure of it. The cave is said to have a lake and a forest surrounding it. The roof of one of the caves caved in centuries ago which now adds to beauty of the cave letting in sunlight and the light reflected off the water makes the cave more mysterious and magnificent. In 1962 artifacts where found in the cave which where dated back to the 3rd and 4th century BC.

Another great work of art created by nature itself is the Drogarati Cave. The cave was found about 300 years ago, but was opened to the public recently. The entrance to the cave was revealed because of an earthquake that took place in the 1960's. Scientists believe that there are other parts to the cave that connects with other sea caves which are unreachable and restricted to the public.

Castle of St George, Church of Evangelistria at Kastro, Bell Tower & Square, Napier Gardens, Saint Spyridon Church, Italian War Memorial are some of the places among many that we could visit and learn about.
