Feng Shui 'Tanked'

 Feng Shui 'Tanked'

I am a big fan of reality television. From 'The Voice' to 'Iron Chef', I watch them all. Lately, I have been following a new reality series called "Tanked" on Animal Planet. The show is about two New Yorkers who move to Las Vegas to follow their dreams of building the nicest aquariums in the world. One of the episodes is about them trying to build a "Feng Shui" fish tank for a Chinese family; who lives in Long Island, New York. (or should I say "on" Long Island?)

"Feng Shui" is a Chinese art of proper placement of objects. Its goal is to attract the energy of wealth to a household or even office space. Some Chinese believe that fish tanks could bring tranquility and even possibly wealth and prosperity to the family. Therefore, it is quite common to find fish tanks in Chinese households throughout the world.

There are five elements in "Feng Shui": Water, wood(plants in fish tank), metal, earth(rocks, corals and gravel) and fire (colour of the fish, tank lighting). All five elements need to be in balance in order to sustain the positive energy and tranquility within the space.

There are a few fishes that are regarded as "Feng Shui Fish". The most popular one is Arowana Fish. In Chinese it means "Gold Dragon Fish". It has distinct dragon like barbels and large shiny scales that resembles the powerful and mythical dragon. Another popular "Feng Shui" fish is Gold Fish. It is known to be used to remove the bad energy from the environment.

Personally, I am not a "Feng Shui" master and am skeptical about "Feng Shui". However, I believe proper placements of certain furnitures, appliances and art works could elaborate the outlook of a space. I invite you to check out the show "Tanked" on Animal Planet. It is a interesting show and it is certainly a more enjoyable show than "The Real Housewives of Vancouver".

  1. Do your parents also believe in Feng shui? or do you have any examples that show feng shui could improve people's luck?
