Festival of Lights

Ever heard of the festival of lights? Well if you have not, festival of lights is a celebration originated in India also known as “Diwali”, it is one of the biggest and important celebrations in India.  It is celebrated between the months of October and November, and in the Sikh community it is celebrated because our sixth Guru was released and they celebrated with lighting many lamps. Nowadays in India many people use fireworks and light up lamps and visit Temples to celebrate. Here in Canada we do the same but we do not light up fireworks because of the housing situation; however we do light up fireworks at the Temple. My family and many others in our community tend to turn on majority of the lights in our houses when it gets dark on the night of Diwali to show respect and to show that we celebrate it.
This is a picture of a "Deva" which is like a type of lamp where you can light the tip of it to create light.

This image shows the Golden Temple on the night of Diwali with fireworks being lit and also with a crowd of people that went to celebrate the occasion.

  1. Hey I celebrate diwali myself and it's a great celebration I wait for it every year. I really like the way you explained diwali and your pictures were beautiful. Also, we turn on the lights in our house at dark to show laxmi (god of money) the way to our house. Atleast that's what I was taught it could be different for you.

It was interesting to finally find out the reason the Sikh community celebrated diwali. Great blog overall and hope you have a great diwali celebration this year too!
