Palestine Hunger Strike

During the last couple of weeks, my Facebook newsfeed has been bombarded with news about a Palestinian hunger strike.  Naturally, I decided to read more about this to become aware of what is happening in that part of the world.  There are thousands of Palestinians held illegally in Israeli jails without trial or any charges.  These prisoners are being held in jail without being convicted of any crime.

The reason why the prisoners are going on these hunger strikes is to raise awareness internationally.  They are also of course demanding to be released as they are being wrongfully held as prisoners. With many Palestinians participating in this strike, they show their unity and spirit, and that despite all the crises they face they will not bow down to Israel’s cruelty. Men and women going on hunger strikes over 40, 50, and 60 days seems unreal.  But that is the point they are trying to make.

These prisoners are denied any family visits. We do not know how good our lives are until we learn about the world. Let us hope we can one day reach world peace.

  1. I understand that these prisoners are trying to raise awareness but there should be a different way. I've personally never understood hunger strikes. To me it's let the oppressors eat while the oppressed starve. There should be a better way to raise awareness, after all they are raising awareness to be free and live better lives. Why starve to death?
