Oktoberfest started in 1810 as a celebration for the marriage of the Bavarian prince Ludwig to the Saxon-Hildburghausen Princess Therese. The main attraction of Oktoberfest was originally a horse race. Oktoberfest was held every year from then on, and as every year passed more attractions were added.  These attractions included amusement rides, tree climbing competitions, races, eating contests, and goose chases.

The music at Oktoberfest is made up of a lot of traditional folk music by brass bands along with modern day hits. It is common to see people singing, arms linked and beer mugs swinging at Oktoberfest. The food you can find at Oktoberfest consists of a lot of meat including whole grilled chicken, split roast duck or goose, Ox tail, Pork knuckles, veal sausage, and fish. Vegetarians are not to worry at Oktoberfest as there are many meatless dishes including cheese plates with bread, and soft pretzels. Desserts include apple strudels, sugared pancakes with raisins, and steamed honey-dumplings.

  1. Oktoberfest sounds like my kind of festivity. I am a fan of German food, especially their bratwurst and pork knuckles. They are scrumptious comfort food at its best. It is interesting to know that Oktoberfest also offers vegetarian dishes, as I thought Oktoberfest is only for 'meatatarian'!
