Mmmmm Samosas!!

Samosas are a very popular appetizer in East Indian culture. They are usually served at the beginning of a party as a snack with some tea which is called chai. There are many different types of samosas that you can make; some of the varieties are vegetable samosas, lamb samosas, beef samosas, and chicken samosas. I personally have not tried lamb, beef or chicken samosas; I always eat the vegetable samosas, so therefore I will give you the vegetable samosa recipe.

Filling:

Ingredients:
1 potato
1 carrot
2 cloves of garlic (crushed)
1 onion
1 cup of peas
1 table spoon of vegetable oil
2 teaspoons of curry powder
Add salt and pepper according to your taste
100mL of vegetable stock

 Preparations:
- dice the potatoes and carrots into small cubes
-  heat the oil in a frying pan, then add the chopped onions and crushed garlic, and then mix in all the spices and fry them all together until it starts to look soft
- now add the vegetables, seasoning and stir it all together well until coated
- finally add in the vegetable stock, cover it with a lid and let it cook for at least half an hour

That was the filling of the samosa, now this is how you make the pastry of the samosa. You can buy the pastry, but I think it is better if you make it on your own.

This recipe makes 24 samosas!

 Pastry:

 Ingredients:
225gm of flour
2 teaspoons if salt
2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
80mL warm water

 Preparations:
- mix flour and salt together in a bowl
- in the centre of the dough make a well and then add oil and enough water to make a firm dough
-  next you need to knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is smooth and roll into a    ball
-  take some plastic wrap and cover it and put it to the side for half an hour
-  after the half hour has passed, take the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces
-  roll each of them into a ball and then roll out into a circle which is 15cm
-  now the 15cm circle needs to be divided into 2 equal pieces using a knife
-   get a brush and dip it into water and brush the edges and form a cone like shape around your fingers and making sure that the dampened end is sealed, also make sure that there is one opening for the filling to go in
-   take a tablespoon of the vegetable filling and fill the pastry with it, if you think more needs to be added then do so
-    now you can press the opening dampened edges together to seal the cone

This is what a samosa looks like before it needs to be fried!

-  finally fry the samosas in hot oil until they start to look crispy and a light brownish color, then take them out and drain the oil from them

This is the final product! Ready to eat!

Now you can enjoy your samosas with either a sauce or ketchup, and of course they always taste
