Insane in the Membrane?

I am a huge sports fan, but I admit that I have zero interest in the Stanley Cup Final. I am a huge Flames fan and could not bear to watch the former Flames head coach Darryl Sutter hoisting the Stanley Cup in his first year as the head coach of LA Kings. (Trust me it is bound to happen!) Luckily, Euro 2012 starts today! (June 8th) I could careless about the matches on the first day, but on Saturday it will be Germany vs Portugal and Sunday is Italy vs Spain! Both matches are going to be awesome. I am sure people all over the world will stay tuned for those epic matches.

I have a German and a Italian roommate, so I am sure they are anxious to see the Euro starts. To me Germany has always been a solid team and the 'ultimate opportunist.' They play a physical game and will use their size to score goals in front of the net. As for Italy they have always been 'the defensive specialist', combining with a solid midfield. This year they will have the always controversial 'Super' Mario Balotelli. His claim of being racially abused has already been discussed on a previous blog posted by Chadi. For those of you who do not know, Mario is an insanely talented football player and 'insane in the membrane' at the same time.

Mario is a stalker. About two weeks ago, Mario secretly followed a 19 year-old waitress named Lauren to her house and begged her to date him. At first, Lauren was about to slam the door in his face when her Manchester City fan uncle recognized Mario. Her uncle invited Mario to come in and they started chatting about football. Every now and then, Mario would ask Lauren to go out for a date and she would politely turn him down. She has no intention to go out with a world-renowned footballer as well as a playboy, which is good for her. Also, Mario is truly a 'passionate' person. His house was set on fire last year as he and his friends let off fireworks from a window in his bathroom. Mario was escaped unhurt, but he was summoned to see his Manchester City coach Mancini after the latest chapter of madness in his career. I guess if you are famous, you can get away with a lot of things. Who on earth can get away from stalking a teenage girl and burnt down his own house?

On the football field, Mario is an extraordinary player if he can keep his cool. Experts have reckoned the volatile striker could have a big role in Euro 2012. I have no doubt that Mario is a talented football player but I doubt he is dependable when it matters. Italy needs to play smart and play their traditional defensive, counter-attack style of football in order to have any success in Euro 2012. Mario may or may not perform well in the Euro 2012, but I can assure you that he will be entertaining to watch.

  1. It is always interesting to watch a game where Balotelli is involved. He is a good player but he has to learn to control himself, something he still has not learnt since his days at Inter Milan.

The story about him stalking that girl is hilarious. Plus, he got turned down...ouch!

Great to see more and more soccer posts!

  3. Mario Barlotelli has been AWFUL! He needs to score or else Di Natele can start the do-or-die game 3 versus Ireland!
