I am going to talk about my sister's favourite plush, a rabbit cartoon character named Miffy. It is a female rabbit drawn and written by Dutch artist Dick Bruna. Dick created Miffy in 1955 during a wet and windy seaside holiday in Egmond aan Zee, a village in the Northern Holland. He saw a little rabbit there and drew a story about it to amuse his son Sierk. Dick describes his first Miffy as "a bit naive, with little dots for eyes and clumsy ears." Miffy became a female after Dick decided he wanted to draw a dress instead of a trouser on his rabbit. I found this fact to be hilarious. Miffy would have been much less popular if she was a male!

My sister loves everything about Miffy. She owns numerous Miffy plush dolls, stationary as well as cellular phone accessories. My parents just broke their bank by purchasing a limited edition Miffy Plush doll during their visit to Amsterdam's Miffy gift shop. Many people think that Miffy is Japanese, because the Japanese company Sarnio's Hello Kitty character renders a similar style. Also, Miffy is extremely popular in Japan and many of the merchandizes are made by the Japanese. However, Miffy is a Dutch!

Miffy celebrated her fiftieth birthday in 2005. This has been celebrated across the globe, like in the Manchester Art Gallery in England. Many hotels in Holland even have a children's corner that features Miffy toys and Miffy storybooks! Miffy also serves as a 'celebrity character spokesperson' for Unicef. Therefore, Miffy is not just an ordinary adorable plush rabbit. She is a star of her own!
