Hey there people of the web, and avid globetrotters, I bring this information for the avid skiers of the world. I, myself enjoy skiing but I'm not a pro by no means. There are so many good places to ski in Canada alone, Lake Louise in Alberta, Whistler in British Columbia, Mont-Tremblant in Quebec among many others. Then there are still a lot of different ski resorts in the USA and throughout the Rockies. Across the world there are skiing resorts, in many different mountain chains, the Alps, the Andes and more. It's been a dream of mine to go and Ski in Switzerland as well as France, but for now Banff and Whistler will do fine.
So I have constructed a list of my favorite, along with other peoples opinion's on the 5 best ski resorts in the world.
I got start off at number 5 with one located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Banff and Lake Louise. On a clear winter day Banff is a picturesque town, with some killer slopes around it, and the same goes for Lake Louise right up the road. Slopes like Mount Norquay as well as Sunshine Village and of course Lake Louise slopes are pretty good as well. In the middle though there is a bit of a hidden gem in Castle Mountain, of course not the best but I still found it to be a good slope after a good snow day.
Now at number 4 I did some research and found this one located in France Chamonix-Mont Blanc, which was the host of the first Winter Olympics in 1924. The resort is located at the base of Mount Blanc which is the highest peak in the Alps (elv. 15, 771). Mount Blanc owns the bragging rights to one of the longest runs, which is the Vallee Run at 13.7 miles as well as a vertical drop 9, 209 feet. Just reading it makes me want to go there and catch a drift in those slopes.
At number 3 i decided to put Switzerland, because let's face it, Switzerland is pretty much one big ski resort. It's a gorgeous country, and a country I want to visit more then any other country in the world, and it's home to some of the best skiers. So which resort is the best, well that depends on the person I guess, outsiders seem to think Gstaad and St Moritz definitely bring in the most cash and people, but the people of Switzerland believe Zermatt to be the best of the best. Personally I would rather trust the word of the people within the country on which resort is the best, especially when those people are some of the best skiers in the world. A peaceful village and the 2nd largest vertical drop make this one, one of the definite stops on a skiers list.
2 left and at number 2 I got an age old resort in another big skiing European country, Austria. Austria is home to "Europe's Liveliest Ski Resort", St Anton and Innsbruck is one of Europe's liveliest and most beautiful cities, the one that people should truly know about is Kitzbuhel. Kitzbuhel is consider the "pearl of the Alps", and in a town that has seen skiing since 1892 these slopes are very experienced. After reading up on this resort it probably has just made my, personal places to ski list.
Finally the number one place to ski, and where else would it be but here in the Great White north, in British Columbia home of the 2010 Olympics. If you don't know which resort I'm talking about then you probably of been living around a rock for the past 3 years. Whistler Blackcomb is the definite number 1, and I have been blessed with the opportunity to ski, or attempt to ski these gorgeous slopes. The 2010 Olympics definitely gave this place much more publicity and upgrade but even before that it was still an absolute spectacle, with one of the more exciting vertical drops. Places around the world continually rank it high in their best places to ski, and here in Canada it has been number 1 for the past 3 years i believe. Snowboarder and skiers alike will crave this place after just one run down it's amazing slopes. Check this video out for Whistler!
To end off I just want to show you something that is on my bucket list, it's called Heli-Skiing, it's where you take a helicopter to the top of the mountain and then from then on out you ski! Anyways that's all I have to say, I hope to see you out on the slopes!
